Race Report by Paul Ashley
Was a good day out for Team Feat with myself and Mark taking 1st and 3rd in the Seniors Category at the Goodwood Duathlon. Although Technically I was 2nd overall as I got a good kicking by Vet Matt Molloy and there where some other good Vets in the mix that pushed Mark down to 7th Overall. The Goodwood Duathlon is a 4k run, 40k bike and 8k run literally going around and around the 4k motor race circuit. It makes for a fast course and is ideal for spectators and I even managed to drag the family along to give me a bit of support. It's great for getting used to using the tri bars again being traffic free and even someone with my handling skills can stay on the tri bars for the whole 40k on the bike. The sun was shining so it turned out to be a great day out and the event is always friendly and well organised by Portsmouth Triathletes. The race itself went better than expected for me. I felt relaxed on the first run coming in first and managed to put a bit of time into 2nd placed Matt Molloy. I knew he was a strong biker and my biking legs where a bit suspect so my aim was to hold onto my lead as long as I could. That did not last to long and Matt came zooming past at the start of lap 4. I held on for a bit but the gap soon started to grow very quick and I was starting to get tired. I dug in hard on the 2nd run and pulled back about 30 secs on Matt but his bike leg did to much damage so I was never going to pull it back. A lovely event I would recommend to all and with change out of £20 that is a rareity these days. Obviously not as scenic as our own club duathlon but great for feeling some speed at the start of the season. Hopefully some of the Portsmouth triathletes will be making there way over to the forest after talking to them about our own Duathlon event which was organised so well last year.
